What Would You Do To Make London A Better Place?

Annual Open Labs Day...Similar to Open House Weekend, but celebrates our city's vast and under-appreciated science culture. The public get to question real scientists in working labs, and explore London's scientific history (Darwin, Newton, Hooke, Faraday, Franklin, Jenner, Davy, Maxwell...) through open days at places like the Royal Society, Royal Institution etc.

I've always wanted to help organise such a thing - hope it gets more votes!

love it! you get my vote, and tweet ;-) btw in the user profile there's an option for enabling automatic sharing on fb and twitter... it should be more transparent really..

I love this idea. Completely ties into the increasing need to engage the public in science in a way that stops them being scared of it, or completely influenced by bad science reporting in the press.

Fantastic idea. Hopefully some of the London universities would support it too.

Hmm, someone with a filthy mind just pointed out that Open Labs Day sounds a bit lewd. Maybe we could think of a better name. But I think the idea's a winner for everyone.

I think I like Open Labs... or maybe I'm just a very good boy and just don't get it!

Many places already have their own local schemes to invite people in, but this would help by bringing in more science venues to visit and giving a much more powerful marketing push. I can see it becoming a valuable annual fixture.
