What they've done on the central line recently, in "hot spots" along the line is to turn off one or more of the escalators/elevators during non-peak times to save energy and reduce bi-product heat emissions. This in turn cools the station down (or at least doesn't heat it up more). It has definitely made a difference. I'd like to see more of this across the whole tube system as an immediate help to the summer overheating problem.....

I think it must be possible to chill the air inside the tube train and after all that is when the problem is at its worst. I agree the platforms and station ticketing areas are a bigger technical problem to air condition.

Agree but it will contribute for a quicker CO2 increment which is actually outside the government guidelines.
